| The Executive Council of the African Union meeting at its Sixth Ordinary Session at Abuja , Nigeria wound up deliberations on January 27, 2005. After consideration of the Draft Protocol on the Merger of the African Court on Human and People's Rights and the Court of Justice of the African Union, a consensus emerged on the need to convene a meeting of the PRC and of Government legal experts from AU Member States to consider the recommendation and draft legal instrument and related issues, with a view to making an informed decision on the matter. Emphasis was laid on the operationalization of the African Court on Human and People's Rights as an indispensable tool for human rights observance on the Continent. The Council agreed that the PRC and Legal Experts should reexamine the issue and submit a recommendation to the 7 th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council for consideration in July 2005.
