The Protocol Services Unit advises the Commission on all protocol-related matters, including international practices in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 18 April 1962; the Headquarters Agreement between the then Organization of African Unity and the Imperial Ethiopian Government of 1965; the Additional Protocol to the OAU and the General Convention on Privileges and Immunities of 1980. The Unit also processes documents for diplomatic privileges (entry and exit visa on behalf of all AU staff, their dependants and visiting family members, elected officials, consultants, envoys, travel documents etc.); Facilitates Customs clearance for imported goods for the AU and its Staff; The Unit further makes all the necessary arrangements for the holding of AU Conferences; organizes ceremonies and functions; procures and maintain national flags of AU member States, portraits of Presidents/Heads of Government, among others.
