African Investment Bank, to Start Operating Soon
Addis Ababa 22 December 2009 – The issue of the effective launch of the African Investment Bank (AIB) was at the center of the Extraordinary Conference of African Ministers of Economy and Finance which held on 17 December 2009 at the headquarters of the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The Ministers considered a number of legal actions aimed at facilitating the effective launch of the African Investment Bank (AIB). They agreed on the allocation of contribution by quotas shares for Members States, the right to vote, and the use of a unit of account amongst others, which they proposed as a Draft Decision to be submitted to the Heads of State and Government for adoption during the next AU Summit. Addis Ababa, to Host Extraordinary Conference of African Ministers of Economy and Finance
Addis Ababa, 16 December 2009 – African Ministers of Economy and Finance will tomorrow Thursday 17 December 2009, converge at the headquarters of the African Union Commission (AUC) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to discuss issues related to the alternative sources of financing the African Union, the roadmap for the development of microfinance in Africa and consider the Annexes to the Statute establishing the African Investment Bank for adoption, amongst others. The opening ceremony of the Extraordinary Conference of African Ministers of Economy and Finance (CAMEF) will be chaired by Dr. Maxwell Mkwezalamba, Commissioner of Economic Affairs of the African Union. AFRICAN UNION AND TURKEY MONITOR PROGRESS ON THEIR COOPERATION
Addis Ababa, 14 December 2009- Turkey and Africa are continuously monitoring and evaluating their cooperation since they signed the Africa- Turkey Cooperation Implementation Plan two years ago. Areas of cooperation as outlined in the Plan are inter-governmental cooperation; trade and investment; agriculture, agri business, rural development, water resources management and small and medium scale enterprises; health; peace and security; infrastructure; culture, tourism and education; media, information and communication technologies; and environment. The agreement also pledges to increase the number and capabilities of TIKA offices. Press Release

Koen Vervaeke, Ambassadeur de l’Union européenne (UE) auprès de l’UA. Cette visite intervient après le premier Forum pour le dialogue entre partenaires stratégiques de l’UA et de la Commission économique pour l’Afrique (CEA) des Nations unies. L’entretien a été l’occasion de revenir sur la mise en œuvre du partenariat stratégique Afrique-UE et des domaines de coopération à explorer ainsi que de questions relatives à la paix et à la sécurité sur le continent.

Bert Ronhaar, Conseiller spécial pour l’Afrique au Ministère des affaires étrangères des Pays-Bas, en visite en Ethiopie à l’occasion du premier Forum pour le dialogue entre partenaires stratégiques de l’UA et de la Commission économique pour l’Afrique (CEA) des Nations unies. M. Mwencha et M. Ronhaar se sont entretenus de la question de la baisse de l’aide au développement dans le contexte de la crise financière. Ils ont également passé en revue les domaines de coopération à approfondir.

10 December 2009-The Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission Mr. Erastus Mwencha yesterday met Professor Adebayo Adedeji, the Chairperson of the African Peer Review Mechanism.

4 December 2009- Le Président de la Commission de l’Union africaine (CUA), M. Jean Ping a reçu en audience, le vendredi 04 décembre 2009, au siège de l’UA à Addis Abeba, Ethiopie, M. Gurjit Singh, Directeur General des affaires africaines de la République de l’Inde. M. Singh est en visite au siège de l’Union africaine dans le cadre de la réunion du sous-comité du l’UA sur la coopération multilatérale. Sa rencontre avec le Président Ping a porté sur le Plan d’action de la coopération Inde-Afrique qui a été adopté en avril 2008 lors du Sommet Inde-Afrique qui s’est tenu a New Delhi, Inde.

4 December 2009- Le Vice-président de la Commission de l’Union africaine (CUA), M. Erastus Mwencha a reçu en audience, le vendredi 4 décembre 2009, au siège de l’UA à Addis Abeba, Ethiopie, M. Mohamed Younis, Représentant spécial conjoint de l'Opération hybride Union africaine – Nations unies pour le Darfour (MINUAD). Nommé en septembre 2009, M. Younis rendait une visite de courtoisie au Vice-président de la CUA. Lors de l’entretien, ils ont entre autres sujets, débattu de questions administratives et financières.
3 December 2009- Chairperson Jean Ping on Thursday 3rd December 2009, received in audience the Chairperson of the African Union High Level Implementation Panel (AUHIP), H.E. Thabo Mbeki to discuss outcomes of the two-day inaugural meeting of the AUHIP that took place from Wednesday 2nd to 3rd December 2009, at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. President Mbeki was accompanied by two other members of the panel; General Abdulsalami Abubakar and President Pierre Buyoya. Mr. Ramtane Lamamra, Commissioner for Peace and Security of the African Union also took part in the discussion.”
