30 April, 2007-The Director of Political Affairs Department,
Ambassador Emile Ognimba, On 30 April 2007 received on behalf of the African Union Commission a cheque of US$ 13,333.33 from the Deputy Head of the Republic of South African Embassy to Ethiopia. It is a financial contribution to the African Union Special Refugee Contingency Fund of which Member States are urged to make donations to alleviate the plight of refugees, returnees and internally displaced persons in Africa.press release

New York, 17 April, 2007- At the invitation of the United Nations Secretary General, Mr. Ban Ki-moon, The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, Prof. Alpha O. Konare, paid a working visit for consultations at the United Nations headquarters on 16 and 17 April 2007 in New York. The meetings were attended a delegation from the African Union, including Dr. Salim Ahmed Salim, AU Special Envoy for Darfur, and AU Commissioner for Peace and Security, Ambassador Said Djinnit. The delegation of the UN included the UN Special Envoy for Darfur, Mr. Jan Eliasson, the Under-Secretary General for Peacekeeping Operations, Mr. Jean-Marie Guehenno. more
