EAST AFRICAN COUNTRIES RESOLVE TO LOBBY FOR RATIFICATION BY MEMBER STATES OF THE AFRICAN CHARTER ON DEMOCRACY, ELECTION AND GOVERNANCE
Kigali, 31 May 2008 – Three main questions were at the centre of discussion at the three-day Regional Meeting on African Charter for Democracy, Election and Governance that ended today, Saturday 31 May 2008, in the capital city of Rwanda, Kigali, under the chairmanship of H.E. Musoni Protais, Minister of Local Government of the Republic of Rwanda. They are:
a) How to increase the political will to sign and ratify the Charter?
b) How to disseminate the Charter in order to ensure ownership, and
c) How to monitor progress on the implementation of the Charter?
