Introduction
The Department of Human Resources Science and Technology has been honoured to have the theme "Science, Technology and Research for Africa's Development" assigned to the January 2007 summit of Heads of State and Government. This honour presents an opportunity for Heads of State and Government to have a focused discussion on the role of science and technology for Africa's socio-economic development.
In preparation for this Summit, the Department is organizing an Extraordinary Meeting of the African Ministers' Council for Science and Technology (AMCOST) to consider recommendations on various issues to the Summit. The AMCOST meetings will take place in Cairo, Egypt as follows:
" Experts' Meeting: 20 - 21 November 2006
" Ministerial Meeting: 22- 24 November 2006
Apart from the Ministers and senior officials responsible for science and technology from the African Union Member States, participants from various regional and international organisations have been invited to the meeting.
