The AMCOST
The African Ministerial Conference on Science and Technology (AMCOST) is a Specialized Technical Committee of the African Union. It promotes pan-African activities, including the development of common Science, Technology and Innovation policies and programmes in Africa.
The AMCOST is composed of Ministers in charge of Science and Technology and their Senior Technical Officials or Experts. It has a Ministerial Bureau composed of five Countries selected from the five regions of Africa. The Bureau is supported by the steering committee which serves which plays an advisory role on all issues arising while providing a strong linkage between the any working groups and the Bureau.
Ordinary meetings of the AMCOST are held once every two years, with the provision for extra ordinary meetings when it is necessary. In accordance with the established African Union practice, the host of the Ordinary Ministerial Conference automatically becomes the chair. AMCOST Meetings are held according to the African Union Executive Council Rules of Procedure. |
