Policy Analysis Support Unit (PASU)

Introduction

The Policy Analysis Support Unit was set up in collaboration with the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF) to strengthen of the technical and institutional capacity of the AU and Regional Economic Communities (RECs) in policy analysis for the promotion of economic cooperation and integration programmes and projects in Africa.

PASU team is made up of 6 experts in the areas of Economic Development Policy, Fiscal Policy, Monetary Policy, Trade Policy and Information and Communication Technology and 5 support staff.

Objectives
The specific objectives of PASU consist of the following:

  • To provide technical advisory services, research and training support for the staff of the AU Commission and the RECs.
  • To provide institutional framework for collaboration and institutional networking between the AU and the RECs, for information sharing, exchanges and other collaborative activities that are geared towards the overall goal of successful implementation of the AU and regional cooperation and integration programmes.
  • To build databases for the AU and the RECs on operational issues of relevance to economic cooperation and integration.

Programmes and Activities

PASU activities are demand driven and based on the approved annual Work Programmes of the relevant departments of the AU and the RECs.
PASU is involved in four types of activities:

  • Policy research
  • Analytical training
  • Database development
  • Outreach, networking and dissemination of information and advisory services
