Administration Department

The Administration Department which is concerned with the day-to-day staff matters and provision of various services, comprises the following Divisions and Units:

(a) Human Resources Development Division

i. General Administration
ii. Training and Career Development
iii. Pension, Insurance and Staff Welfare and Benefits

(b) Organisation & Methods, Systems and Information Technology Division (OMSIT)
(c) Medical Centre
(d) Maintenance and Transportation Services Unit
(e) Security Services Unit
(f) Registry Services Unit

General Objectives/Functions

(a) Human Resources Development Division (HRDD)

The objectives of the Division include the following:

i) Developing the potential of staff of the Organisation through continuous training in order to enhance skills capabilities, effectiveness and performance. The two approaches of training currently available include Group Training Programmes through in-house courses, seminars or workshops, language training and refresher courses. The other approach is Individual Development.

ii) Enrolling staff members in the Pension and Insurance Schemes of the Organisation.
iii) Developing and implementing career plan for staff.

The Recruitment, Appointments, Promotions and Staff Development Committee (CRAPSD) is the Personnel Advisory Body that advises on issues of recruitment, appointments, promotion and staff development.

(b) Organisation and Methods, Systems and Information
Technology Division (OMSIT)

The OMSIT Division is in charge of computers, network and information technology-related issues and performs the following functions:

i. Evaluates needs for new technology and provides necessary technical specification thereof. It is in charge of training of staff in information technology.
ii. Implements and maintains an e-mail system; troubleshoots and repairs IT equipment;
iii. Receives and updates information on the Website;
iv. Configures information technology equipment; and
v. Maintains AU’s network plant and equipment, and also hosts the Department Website on the Campus Wide Network for internal use.

(c) Medical Centre

The AU Medical Centre, which is a support service, has full-time consultations in General/Internal Medicine and Paediatrics. Other consultations available on part-time basis include gynaecology, dentistry, ophthalmology and ultrasound. The Medical Centre also operates a 24-hour emergency as well as an ambulance service.

(d) Maintenance and Transportation Services Unit

The Maintenance and Transportation Services Unit arranges for the following architectural, engineering and general maintenance services:

a. General maintenance such as electrical installation, sanitary, renovation of premises, etc.
b. Maintenance of official telephone lines and apparatuses.
c. Coordination of janitorial and landscaping activities at the AU Commission.
d. Provision of transport services to different Departments for official duties.

(e) Security Services Unit

The Security Services Unit is responsible for the security and safety of personnel and property of the Organisation. It also assists staff members in traffic and other related cases involving the Police.

(f) Registry Services Unit

The Registry Services Unit serves as the mailing and correspondence center of the Organisation. It processes all out-going and in-coming mail of both the Organisation and staff members. The Unit is the liaison between both the Post Office and courier companies and the Organisation.
